I recently got back from a trip to Amsterdam with my boyfriend. He actually had to travel there for work, and I decided to fly out and meet him for a long weekend getaway. We had a great time, so I decided to share some of the cool places we visited! Since I was only there for a long weekend, we didn’t get to do everything we wanted. There is so much to do and see, you definitely need at least a week. With that being said, we still had a blast and I would recommend Amsterdam to anyone looking for their next travel destination!
On Friday night we went to dinner at this really great restaurant called “The Night Watch.” The food was delicious. They are known for their ribs so naturally that’s what we ordered. And naturally we ate way too many! Can you blame us, though? Yum! The environment was unlike any restaurant I have been to before. The table that we sat at was incredibly low to the ground, and we sat on couches that surrounded it. It was a super casual and chill atmosphere. I would highly recommend checking it out!
Forewarning: We did a lot of eating a drinking. So this post may leave you hungry and craving a beer…
The next place I would recommend is De Prael Brewery. We stumbled across this place completely by accident one night and decided to give it a shot. My boyfriend and I love breweries, so we were excited to try one in Amsterdam. When we walked in for the first time, it was completely packed, so we knew it was a very popular spot to be. We couldn’t find a seat at the bar or at any of the tables, so we actually decided to leave. We decided to come back the following night, and that turned out to be a much better experience. We walked upstairs to a lounge area where we were able to find some nice comfy chairs to hang out in. We were able to relax, drink some beers and have a few appetizers. The beer was great and the food was delicious!
The next thing I would recommend doing is the Heineken Experience. For those of you that don’t know, the Heineken brewery is located in Amsterdam. They call it an “experience” because it’s not just your typical brewery tour. It really is an experience. It’s a self guided, interactive tour with several beer tastings at the end! We bought our tickets online for $40. It’s definitely worth it!
Last but not least, I’m going to recommend something that we didn’t actually get to do. I know it makes no sense, but bare with me. Amsterdam canal tours were recommended to us by just about everyone we spoke to. We were pretty bummed we didn’t get to do it, but since we were there in colder weather, we decided not to. It really is a great way to see the whole city from a different perspective. I would definitely recommend booking a canal tour at the beginning of your trip. This would allow you to see the whole city and pick out places you want to visit during your trip.

All in all, we had an amazing time in Amsterdam! My boyfriend will most likely be back there again next year for work, but I’m not sure when my next visit will be. Have you ever been to Amsterdam? Let me know about your experience in the comments below!
